14 Dec NHL Winter Classic Champagne
This past New Year’s Day 2010, Artemis seized a great opportunity to capitalize on the Winter Classic. As soon as it was announced that the Boston Bruins would host the Philadelphia Flyers at Fenway Park on New Year’s Day, our wheels were turning. With our experience in the wine business, we naturally thought it would be a great opportunity to develop a new wine label. However, we had a second thought – wouldn’t champagne be even better?!
The 2010 Winter Classic was destined to become another great chapter in the long and storied history of this celebrated ballpark and we wanted to develop a very special bottle of champagne to commemorate this very special occasion. This private label project would be different from the wine in that we needed to capture the essence of the city, baseball and hockey all the same time. No easy task. We settled on a label honoring the greatest and most recognized scoreboard in baseball. The Green Monster and the scoreboard that resides there are as iconic as the park itself. The great wall stands 37 feet tall, 240 feet long, 310 feet from home plate, and on New Year’s Day 2010, approximately 220 feet from center ice.
Even with just a few short months for product and program development, our Winter Classic champagne reached statewide distribution in Massachusetts and at the end of a five day pre-sale, we had more requests for orders than we had champagne. With almost complete sell-through prior to New Year’s Day, the program was a huge success. And so was the game.
